Link Between Generations

Many a time we get so worked up by the daily demands of family, friends and colleagues
Many a time we question our existence and seek answers to lead life in this contrarian league
Many a time we fail to realize that we have inherited a legacy that was sustained in the past
Many a time we fail to acknowledge that lack of ownership will ensure its disappearance fast

Many a time we focus our energies on earning money to help sustain our choice of lifestyle
Many a time we only realize the value of time when we reflect and open up our memories file
Many a time we claim to understand the essence of life when we have outlived one’s prime
Many a time we live out a short-term outlook life and continue to practise our daily mime

How many of us view our life as the joining link between the past and future generations?
How many of us view our role at ensuring the continuity of inherited culture preservation?
How many of us consciously make time beyond our daily lives filled with desperation?
How many of us acknowledge that we are primarily responsible for our own frustration?

If only we look at the environment around us that seem to beckon us from every direction
It is not the privileged role of the few practitioners of religion to carry forward our tradition
It is not just the duty of the few environmentalists who fight for the cause of preservation
It is not just the responsibility of the passionate musicians who practise their art with dedication

It is not just the accountability of the teachers who demonstrate sincerity in education
It is not just the reliability demonstrated by writers and poets to record factual observation
It is not just the conscientiousness reflected by scientists as they actively seek progression
It is not just the trust that one has on medical practitioners focused on life preservation

It is not just the dependability that the builders demonstrate while developing infrastructure
It is not just playing around with people’s aspirations when politicians promise better governance structure
It is not just targeting profitability when media advocates transparency while exposing hungry vultures
It is not just superficial sensitivity when business contributes to sustainable social ventures

Each of our action that we undertake today is a link between the past, present and the future
Each thought that guides our actions today will have far-reaching consequences tomorrow
Each of our actions that we advocate today may take a lot of time to undo if the need arises
Each generation inherits the right to either bless or blame the preceding one for their crisis

Is it not important that we step back and reflect for a moment before we commit to a plan of action?
Is it not important that we view our lives as not one led in isolation but a part of Universal Population?
Is it not important that we contribute together to alleviate this world of suffering and starvation?
Is it not possible that we all unite as one family while being the torch-bearers of our generation?

In this highly materialistic world, it calls for people to not just develop an idealistic outlook but practise it diligently.

It is definitely something that we all would like our world to resemble but how many of us as you rightly question will diligently devote time and discipline ourselves to make this world a better place and leave a better legacy for the next generation?

Dear Deva

Our parent's generation made time for many other things as they lived their daily lives. One can argue about the pros and cons in light of hindsight. All said and done, whatever little we have learnt about our rituals and traditions is because of their efforts.

It has been my observation that our generation let alone practise the tradition does not even know the meaning and purpose behind various rituals. In this light,it is definitely concerning as to what kind of learning will we impart to the future generation?. We need to be more proactive in our life. As any qualifying statement, it ultimately depends on how much importance every individual attributes to the same.

Good stuff man. Keep writing and sharing your beautiful thoughts.

Cheers....Subu
