Procrastination

A word that many of us can resonate with at various times of life
An act that many of us have been irresponsible enough to indulge in
An example that many of us may not recount with pride and respect
A habit that many of us have at various points of time tried to dispense with

It all starts with a small little indulgence that at the start may not matter
The first time you open the door is sowing the recipe for future disaster
The freedom to intrude your personal space will have a natural outcome in the final race
It is akin to a desire to move your foot forward yet with your head turned backwards

One may easily relate with your fetish to shed those extra pounds you have piled on
It just happens that every other day you seem to find a logical reason to put off action
It could be the change in weather that may not appeal to your sensibilities one day
Or a funny uneasiness that seems to bind you in a state of no action the other day

It could be your best friend’s first and only marriage in his lifetime and you ignore your diet
It could be the vacation that you have been planning & dreaming for ages and you willingly pile on
It could be the ultimate high on the personal or professional front and you want a celebration
You rationalize that in rare moments of pleasure one should not play spoil sport by self obsession

You may be more conscientious and willingly workout four times a week
Yet there are those moments in the day when you lose integrity and go weak
Your head guides you to the right choices in life, yet you decide to follow your heart
Your consent to the requests by others directly impacts in causing self grievous hurt

You may have decisions to make that you unconsciously seem to put off for another day
You may rationalize by saying that in the interests of quality you need more information and time
You want to involve others in the decision making process so that they do not feel hurt
You fail to realize that these very actions are increasingly responsible for you losing your sleep

You may tend to hold back your dissenting opinion and may lack courage to stand for democracy
At the other extreme you intentionally put up blocks lacking the spine to directly confront and act
Many a kind thought and idea may come to a dead stop with the now infamous “But”
But as they say Postponements is a sincere form of rejection and you are bound to get into a rut

Just putting off a difficult thing for tomorrow is not going to make life easier
You will have to anyway tackle it along with all that gets piled on the way
Procrastination as the wise people say is the art of keeping up with yesterday
You need to decide and the time is now whether you intend to let life speed you by!

As much as I agree with you, sometimes procrastination seems to be a necessary evil. The act of procrastination (however disgusting) buys time and time provides an opportunity to come up with solutions. If not anything else, it acts as a great healer.
